Discount Tire - Replacement Review

I had one flat tire, and I had a my car towed to Discount Tires in Centennial Colorado. When I talked to them on the phone, I let tem know that I needed the one tire replaced. When I went in to pick up my car, they told me they decided to replace all 4 tires. They said my tires are getting worn down and it is the law that they are required to replace them. I never got a phone call telling me that they will be doing this, and now I am stuck making payments to them for tires I nevet asked for. I do not know if this is the law, or just a scam. It was either I pay, or I dont get my car back. I will never go to Discount Tires again!

No air, tires too old!!!!!

Been a customer for years. Have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder.

Stopped at the Discount Tire store in Rockwall, Tx. to get tires aired up. Was told "these tires are over 10 years old" we can't/won't air them up, but we'll give you a good deal on new ones!" Would like to know whether this is a particular stores policy, or the company. If the stores, advise, I'll go to another.

If Discount tires, I'll see ya! I have bought MANY sets of tires. Didn't want to for 1998 car.

The tires are in good shape. They might as well have slapped me in the face!!!!

If you still have the 98 I suggest you go and air the tires up while using them as a pillow if your so smart. I've had a multiple tires blow up while adding air and I'll be damned if I risk my life and ability to feed my family for an ignorant cheapskate like yourself. Your an ***!!

Guest

I have worked at 3 separate tire shops including walmart and discount tire, its not just a store policy, its a RMA policy which every tire retailer has to follow.... I have not worked anywhere that would work on tires 10 years or older, we recommend you replace them after 6 years but seriously, 10 year old tires are very dangerous

Guest

This is Discount Tire's policy as recommended by the RMA, the Rubber Manufacturer's Association, which every major tire manufacturer is a part of, Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Continental, Toyo, etc. They all do their research and publish their recommendations, such as not working on tires that are over 10 years old, not patching a tire more than 3 times, and spell out their procedures.

Guest

Company policy. It's dangerous for the tech's and anybody airing up tires 10 years or older. They've exploded on technicians before.

Guest

http://www.edmunds.com/car-care/how-old-and-dangerous-are-your-tires.html

here is a good review on why not to air up tires over 10 years old

Guest

After a tire is ten years old or older the construction of the tire starts to weaken and makes it more susceptible to explode wether the tread is good or not

Failed to provide warranty

I purchased from Discount tires a set of 4 Michelin tires and the extended warranty or certification(the way they called) for my vehicle, after only 36k miles the tires have worn out completely. An employee from discount tires notified me that this was considered normal wear and tear and the warranty doesn't apply in my case nor the extended warranty, this is ridiculous from an expensive tire. I normally doesn't buy extended or extra warranty policy but I did in this case due to an expensive tire, I'm really disappointed about Discount Tires service and the poor quality of an expensive tire.

Mike is right, if it was normal wear and tear Michelin's mileage warranty should take affect (if that specific tire has one). But, if it's from alignment being bad then no warranty covers it unfortunately.

Guest

Their extended warranty called a replacement certificate is for material defects or non repairable road hazards. The mileage warranty comes with the tire and is prorated based on the mileage received as long as its evenly worn. Tires that are worn unevenly from alignment issues does not apply.

Worse than a used car sales lot

I went to Discount Tires in Georgetown Texas to buy new front tires for my truck. They did not have the tires I wanted in stock. The guy I dealt with made a few phone calls (2 of which I'm sure were fabricated) and after some bad acting, made himself a hero by finding the only 2 tires left in the entire U. S. in some warehouse in Chicago. $417.00 dollars later, I went to have them installed. The tech told me my tmps valves were faulty and they could rebuild them for an additional $250.00. I declined their generous offer. After waiting 1 hour, I was told they could not get the air out of my old tires without ruining the tmps valves. Now with my truck inoperable, they had me over the block. Another $130.00 later, I drove away feeling angry and abused. Discount Tire, you will never see another penny of mine and I will go out of my way to make sure every person I talk to will know your cheap and dishonest practices. I am filing a complaint with BBB as well.

I WORK IN A TIRE STORE. NOT DISCOUNT.

I IN NO WAY AM SAYING THIS TO PUT A BAD IMAGE OF THEM OUT THERE BUT THIS STORY CAUGHT MY EYE. IT IS VERY COMMON FOR THE VALVE CORE TO GET STUCK IN THE TPMS SENSOR. WITH THAT SAID YOU CAN STILL LET THE AIR OUT WITH A SANDARD AIR GAUGE. IF YOU TRY TO FORCE THE VALVE CORE OUT THEN YOU CAN BRAKE THE SENSOR WICH WILL THEN HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

A REBUILD KIT CONSIST OF A RUBBER GORMIT AND A NEW VALVE CORE AND CAP. COST ABOUT 6 BUCKS. DONT KNOW WHERE THEY GOT TWO HUNDRED FROM. ALL I CAN SAY IS IF SOMTHING DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT HAVE IT CHECKED BY A COMPETITOR.

IF YOU GET AN OTHER ANSWER HAVE I CHECKED ONE MORE TIME. ITS SAD TO SEE THAT WORKERS BEING ***, MONEY HUNGRY OR WHO JUST DONT CARE ANYMORE GIVING ALL OF US IN THE SAME BUSINESS A BAD NAME. MY PLACE OF BUSINESS HAS HAD ISSUES TO.

NO WONDER PEOPLE DONT TRUST MECHANICS AND MORE. SO SAD!!!

Discount Tire refused to sell me the tire I wanted

Discount Tire has lately been enforcing a policy that they won't sell you a tire that has a load rating less than the what the manufacturer recommends. It sounds reasonable, but the load ratings they claim come from the manufacturer are bogus and jacked up way higher than they need to be. Evidently this is to sell you a more expensive tire than you need or to minimize road hazard claims or both. I tried to reason with me but they were unreasonable. They told me my business wasn't worth it, my way or the highway essentially. Either way I won't e shopping there anymore.

I agree. they are trying to profit in any way possible. just like when they will not put better tires in the front when the front tires wear out quicker than the rear

Guest

Ok Tard, it doesn't matter when your car was manufactured, what matters is how much your car weighs! Weight not date.

They don't make up the load ratings, they are what they are.

Tire manufacturers make tires to carry a certain weight at a certain air pressure. It doesn't matter how old your car is, it matters how much it weighs.

Okay let me break it down to you kindergarten style so you can understand what I am saying.

Of course the weight of the car is what is important...that's my whole point.

According to the weight sticker on the door my car has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 3262 pounds. This is the most this car is allowed to weigh including passengers and cargo. It has a Gross Axel Weight Rating (GAWR) of 1939 pounds, this is the maximum the axle is allowed to carry. Assuming each tire carries half that is less tan 970 pounds per tire.

What Discount Tire can't explain to me is why they computer insists I need a tire with 1433 pounds carrying capacity.

And I am a NASA Engineer so I think I understand technical matters more than you give me credit.

Jonathan Miller

You are not listening to the words that im saying. I totally agree that they should not sell tires with insufficient load rating.

I understand how to read the sidewall. My point is that my car was manufactured before the load index was created so Discount Tires system makes up a number out of thin air that in now way correlates to what my car actually requires. In other words their system is incorrect and they refuse to acknowledge that fact.

Like you they have a knee *** reaction and assume I dont know what I'm talking about. If people would only listen this would be a better world.

Guest

It's all about your safety and the safety of the people driving aroud you. The load index is stamped on the side of the tire.

You say they are jacked up and bogus, read the sidewall and Google it and you'll see for yourself. You really should do your homework before you go online and show everyone how *** you are.

Jonathan Miller
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-805973

You don't even know what kind of car I have so how can you tell me if the load rating is appropriate or not? You are the one showing your ignorance.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Jonathan Miller

It doesn't matter to me what kind of car you have. I said look at the tire and then Google it and see for yourself.

Obviously they knew what kind of car and also knew the load index was not right.

Instead of bashing someone because they won't do something that could jeopardize YOUR SAFETY do some research on your own and find out for yourself. It's people like you that make the world a scary place.

Discount tire will not put new tires on the front.

discount tire will not put new tires on the fron of your car i bought a new tire had to order it from them and then they refused to put it on the front, by doing this they are making users keep older tires on the front they will where out quicker and make you buy new tires sooner than you have to and they will not even rotate your tires if the one on the back are in better condition than the front ones! so much for free tire rotation. In short they do not care about your safety!!!!!!! just money!!!!!!!

Jon What about front wheel drive? How come tread wears out faster than the back?

There is four wheel drive, front wheel drive, and rear wheel drive cars. They all do different things with tires.

The tire industry just want people to buy 4 tires at time because sales of buying four at a time are not doing well. So they made up some *** law.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-830106

It's because if your are in a curve with bald tires on the rear the rear will lose traction front wheel drive, all wheel or rear wheel the rear is more likely to lose traction so you need better tread on the rear and if you kept your tires rotated properly you wouldn't have uneven wear...

Discount Tire - Warranty Review

New Tires were bare after 6,000 miles. They say no warranty because it's out of alignment. Basically brand new tires. Why would they put new tires on and not align car? So I would have to come back in 6 months to buy new tires.

Guest

Because Discount Tire doesn't align vehicles. They only do wheels and tires.

So the question is, why would YOU get new tires and not get the car aligned? You should be getting your vehicle's alignment checked regularly, you shouldn't wait for problems to occur, and then get upset that a tire store didn't maintain your vehicle's suspension components.

Install tire patch on a small hole made by screw

I came to Discount tire on Alpine Ave., as I always have for the last 12 years. I have purchased thousands of tires from them. I caught a screw in the bottom of my new trailer tire. The salesmen, after telling him my problem, started telling me that he couldn't guarantee the fix. He stated that the hole was probably too big and that I would have to buy a new tire. He was very demanding about it, and he had a forceful attitude in doing so. I have had many tires repaired from Discount tire before, with the same problem, without having an issue. I feel that they must have a commission or an amount that they need to get to by the end of the day. All he had in mind was to upsell, instead of doing a simple repair. This attitude has made the decision to seek business elsewhere. I will never spend another dime at Discount tire. I will tell everyone I know to shop at a more reputable place.

Actually you're wrong no one at discount makes commission it has to do with the angle of the puncture and any hole larger than 1/4 inch is non repairable

Guest

I work for Discount Tire and can assure you that we certainly DO NOT get commission. The fact that you would cut ties due to one bad instance tells us all we need to know about you. Have fun paying for all your tire maintenance and tire repairs elsewhere.

Wow I have never seen anyone in a Professional Business direct such a insulting comment. I work at a local Tire shop and I have never seen a Big Box store help out customers it is true that some repairs can't be fixed however 1/4 inch that is untrue they make a 12 patch that is 2 inches by 4 inches so it could be done but your company policy says no. Which is fine because it gives us more business we not only sell tires but we take care of the tires, steering, suspension, alignment which is something you do not do.

Courtnie Vei

Too arrogant to listen to someone who knows what they are talking about. Go ahead, let them patch it and have it blow out while you are pulling it.

Tires Review

Terrible service and they forced me into buying tires I did not want after they conned me into giving them a holding fee that I could not get back 100 bucks. My tires where still not in by the time I needed them for a road trip they said they would ship them to a location in Colorado instead of New Mexico, 2 weeks later and I still do not have the tires I paid for.... Super mad and will never use them again

Rotation that never happened....lied to me

Sent my wife to have the tires rotated and they provided her a receipt stating completion but the tires were never removed from the vehicle. I marked the wheels RR/LR/FL/RL that morning. After my wife returned from the Discount store at 2301 N Scottdale, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 the tires were in the same positions. The employee on the receipt was "099 Phillip J XXXXX. Date 06-24-2014 Time 01:39 and looks like invoice 785****. I have pictures of the tire markings and invoice. I spent $850.00 2 months ago in Denver on new MDX tires and now regret it. Won't do business with them again.

Installed Cheaper Tires Than I Ask and Paid For - Dishonest Scam

I went to this west Plano 75093 location because of the good reviews. Now I will never do business with ANY Discount Tire ever again.

September 2013. I went on the Discount Tire website to see and price tires. I decided to buy four Michelin Primacy MXV4 V-rated for $131 each. Note: At the time I looked the Michelin Primacy MXV4 came in two types, V rated for $131 and H rated for $121. I printed the page of the $131 V-rated tire to give to DT to eliminate any confusion about which tire I wanted. The website showed they had the 4 Michelin Primacy MXV4 V-rated in stock. Several other DT stores in the area showed they also had them in stock.

When I got to DT I handed the DT guy my printed copy of the web page for the "$131 Michelin Primacy MXV4 V-rated Tire" from the Discount Tire website, and told him I wanted 4 of these and he verified he had them in stock. I went across the street to a mall while waiting for my car. After coming back and paying, when I was leaving, I decided to inspect the tires before driving off. They had installed the H-rated tires and charged me for the V-rated tires. The receipt did not indicate V or H but I was charged for the V. I thought it was a mistake and went back into Discount Tire and told the DT guy they put the wrong tires on my car. He insisted that they were out of the V-rated, in spite of telling me he had them in stock when I arrived, and not saying anything to me, or adjusting the bill for the cheaper tire. I asked him why didn't you tell me before switching to H-rated? He said a message was left on my cell phone, but the only message I had was DT telling me my car was ready to pick up. I then asked him why didn't you let me go to another DT location as there were 3 or 4 other locations that had the V-rated in stock? He told me all those tires are being "held for other customers".

I told him to either put the V-rated tires on that I requested and paid for, or put my old tires back on and I'll go somewhere else. He then insisted that he would get the V-rated tires "next week" and call me, and that I can drive on the H-rated set until he gets the V-rated in. This week I got a call from DT and I went back and got the correct V-rated tires put on.

But there's more, the shadiness didn't stop there. On the V-rated replacement tires I checked the manufacture dates and 3 of the tires had matching dates and one tire was 4 months newer than the other 3. The single newer tire had the green stripes on the tread indicating the tire is brand new, and other 3 (with matching dates) tires no longer had the green stripes on the tread. The green stripes already worn off the tread on 3 of these tires indicates that these 3 tires were slightly used already, and were probably someone else's returned tires. I now suspect my "new" set of V-rated tires is really one brand new tire and three slightly used returned tires. I didn't mention this to DT because I am sick of DT and don't want to deal with them anymore. And I'm over it as long as the tires are good. By the way the original (wrong) H-rated set I was given all had the green stripes indicating all brand new tires.

When I got on the freeway with the "new" V-rated tires, I noticed my car was pulling to the left. It was a moderate/severe radial pull. I tested it at different speeds and it pulled at all speeds, getting worse the faster the car went. The car never pulled before until the new V's were installed. The original set of wrongly installed H=rated tires were all tracking perfectly.

Before going back to DT again, I switched the two front tires and now it's not pulling anymore and seems to be tracking correctly. From now on it's order new tires online, or go to Sam's Club where I can pick out my own tires myself, and have them installed elsewhere. At least I know what tires I'm actually getting that way and won't get cheated again.

Anonymous 2 why dont you read all the unhappy customer reviews with long standing relationships with Discount Tire. Something is going on there, way to many shannagins to be any kind of coincidence.

Guest

Well she may be being immature in your eyes but the same thing just happened to me in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Coincidence maybe but I am doubting it. I was sitting in the lobby waiting on my tires and they couldn't walk ten steps to tell me that they didn't have all of my tires so they just picked an entirely different brand as if they know what I am looking for on their own and didn't even mention it to me.

Guest

That's an honest mistake. You can't judge the whole company by one stores fault.

When there are new guys back there staring at two stacks of the same size tire they don't know the difference between the two. And with the green lines. Not every tire is made with lunes o. It.

One Michelin could have it and the other might not.

Does not mean the tires were used. Sounds like your making excuses to dislike a company when your just being immature and not understanding mistakes happen.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-792311

I am being "immature" because I complained that I was sold cheaper tires and charged for more expensive ones? Sorry but I don't think so.

It was NOT an "honest mistake". It was intentional. I specifically asked for V rated tires which are more expensive than H rated tires. I was told they had them in stock and the cheaper tires were then installed without telling me.

When I asked why I was told they were "out of stock and we left you a message". THERE WAS NO MESSAGE LEFT FOR ME. DT never claimed it was a "mistake", that is apparently just something from your imagination.

DT tried to pass off the cheaper tires on me. If you have nothing worthwhile to add then I suggest you mind your own business.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-796404

They didn't have the V rated tires (rated for 149 mph) and the H is (rated for 130 mph) but sounds like they either had an inventory error or the tech's pulled the wrong tire either way should not have charged you for the v's when you got H's also if something like that does occur the company should call you and let you know. Before anyone tells me I don't know what I'm talking about I have worked as a Tire tech and am now a manager for a locally owned company I have never heard of such rude customer service but that's what you get from ex possible Walmart Employees Big stores don't care about customers when you have over 500 locations the sad truth is your are just a statistic but some people want cheap chinese tires and that is why Big Box stores thrive.

Discount Tire - Poor Service Review from Greeley, Colorado

I would not advise going to Discount Tire. I dropped my car off for a simple tire patch at 2:00 and they couldn't even call me to tell me that it was done. I had to wait till the next day to pick it up and I was the one to have to call and ask to see if my car was finished. When I did go and pick up my car there was a weird ticking sound and the battery was dead. If they cant even change one tire without any complications I would never trust them to work on any other mechanical jobs. Poor service and an unsatisfactory job.

yeah, I went to Discount Tire the sales gentlemen or scam artist came out and measured my tires and proceeded to tell me how my car tracks and I need to put matching tires on a car like mine. Then in his discovery, he proceeded to try and sell me new rims and when he realized I was there for the cheapest tires I could find for my wifes car, the "little girl" coped an attitude. Bottom line, go to Walmart they won't up sell the *** out of you.
