Midland MI Discount Tire store worker locked me out!

I backed into a Discount Tire store parking spot at 5:58pm last night, got out of my car and started walking toward the entrance. Half way there I noticed someone at the inside of the door looking out and didn't know who it was (I thought it was a customer wandering in the lobby). When I reached the door at 5:59 or 6:pm, it was locked! HOW RUDE! I read the door and it was their normal closing time but,... It was snowing like crazy, we were under a sever weather advisory,... and,... he saw me coming. Why would you lock the door when a customer is approaching? Why would you stop selling snow tires during a snow storm? If this was my business and the weather was providing me an opportunity to sell more tires, I would have all hands on deck and keep the doors open as long as customers were still coming. I won't be going back!

PS. I happen to like the service you get from the guys in the shop at Discount!

They aim to please. However, the upfront service could use cable TV or vending machines. They are under manned in their department and the waiting area is bunk.

Go to Midas and wait for service, it's quite enjoyable, comfortable and congenial. :x

Guest

:I think they both have a good point. However, I happen to know that statistically, one angry customer may lose you 100 customers, whereas, one satisfied customer may gain you 10.

This is according to an analysis conducted by the Auto Value (parts) chain based in Houston, TX. No, I do not work there. I am retired.

The employee should by all means be a traction expert, so he should have that to his advantage getting home a little late.

If not get out of the TRACTION BUSINESS!

If it were me as the employee, I would have served the customer and soaked him. However, one has to question the state of mind the customer would have been in on his way home and how any extraordinary emotions (good or bad) might have affected his driving - seeing that a safe drive home was obviously his primary concern.

Guest

Dont expect service at closing time! When its closing time,...its closing time. Why did you wait so late??!!!

Guest

Great comments,... are you both employed by DT?

Did you read all of my note or just parts?

1-They were open when I arrived.

2-The door was locked while I walked toward it and the person locking it looked right at me.

3-This was the first snow of the year and I had been planning ahead. I had a pocket full of money and was ready to purchase tires that night.

Try owning your own business sometime. See how it pays off locking your door as customers are walking to the door. See if it pays off selling less when the market is finally perfect for sales.

If DT is such a great place to work, don't you think the employees got the best tires at a great discount and would love a little overtime?

With your collective attitudes,... I hope you don't have anything to do with customer support. You wouldn't have many customers,... more than one time!

Guest

Next time don't wait till closing time to head up to the store to purchase tires. Plan ahead and leave earlier next time.

Plus think about the employees who have to stay late to put tires on your car because you showed up at the last minute.

You then force them to drive home in unsafe conditions which obviously by your post your selfish *** doesn't care. You deserved to be locked out for waiting till after they close to show up.

Guest

If it was snowing that bad maybe they didnt see you. As far as staying open all night to accomodate the people who wait until the last minute to buy snow tires is crazy, they have wives and children at home that would love to see them.If you know winter is coming or the weather man says there is a chance of snowstorms this week, that should be an indication to buy tires.

Your lack of planning does not justify an emergency on other peoples part. To say you wont buy tires from them because they closed at there normal time is rediculous.

Why dont you talk to the store manager and see what he can tell you instead of blaming them for your misfortune. Discount Tire is one of the only companies that I have seen stay open after hours to help people out.

Very poor customer service

We had been down to the deer lease and had gotten stuck . We stopped and washed the tires and rims off . But the mud had taken off some of the weights on the tires . We pulled in to the discount tire center in San antonio Texas off of military parkway to get the tires balanced and the first employee was very helpful till I guess an assisstant manager came out and told him not to look at it because the truck was muddy . What happened to well fix any tire problem especially when the first employee had no problem with it this other guy just didn't want to get dirty !!!

Discount Tire Does Not Honor Mileage Warranty

1.- Manager on duty on store TXH 36 Mr Miles was discourteous in manner and action, offensive, sudden and unpleasant.

2.- My tires worn out in less than two years and less than 30,000 miles.

Discount Tire refused to honor the 60,000 miles mileage warranty on my set of tires I bought little less than 2 years ago.

They state these tires do not have mileage warranty but Discount Tire Web Pages show 60,000 miles warranty for my current tires(Fisk Classic 185/65R-14)here in Texas...Yes it is crazy: they offer different mileage warranty for the same tire, for example here in Texas they offer 60,000 miles mileage warranty but in Georgia they offer 50,000 miles mileage warranty for the exact same tire.

I use to trust in Discount Tire but not anymore: they suggested me to buy these "Fisk" tires with 60,000 miles warranty for my brand new car and these are the worse tires I ever had and on top of it Discount Tire don't honor their warranty.

I have the same problem: bought set of 50k new tires because Discount Tire store manager said while his tires are TWICE as expensive as my current set - that got me only 20k miles - his 50k would get me twice or more mileage.well, i went in yesterday for warranty as my dealership said the tires were wornout and would not pass inspection. The DT Mgr said he wouuld not warrant due to us not bringing the car in for rotation.

I said BS and that i had the reciepts where my dealership rotated tires at my "prepaid annual maintenance" and i would get htose or he could simply put hte vehicle on teh rack and observe for himself even wear on all tires adn that tehy had been rotated.

He agreed with the rotation and that he would warrant the tires EXCEPT he only warranted such that I had to pay 75% of the new tires price when I only received 20% (10k miles) of the 50k Warranty!PURE FRAUD & I am seeking others to file CLass Action Suit against DT. I paid TWICE TEH COST for tires that got HALF the mileage and then was cheated on teh warranty!anyone else similarly situated please reply to info@***.com and we will sue their a>>3> on a class action filing!!!!!!!

Some shops are great and others are not so great.

The Manufacture tire mileage warranty is about as good as Mattress warranties.

They only cover a Car that is operated in perfect alignment and where the tires have been rotated properly.

If you own a light weight car chances are your tires will last longer and you won't have as many issue that a heavier car has.

Front wheel drive cars based on design wear on the edges of the tires during cornering.

The tire shop however will blame any edge wear on improper alignment or inflation. This was mostly true with the older rear wheel drive cars of the past. On todays front wheel drive cars the edge of the tire will wear faster than the rest even with proper alignment and inflation. Hard or sharp cornering will cause it to ware faster than driving like a senior citizen.

All tire shops pretty much play the same game.

In their defense the tire manufacture won't give them credit for tires worn unevenly as they always blame it on in proper inflation or alignment. The tire shop would have to eat the cost themselves if they honored the mileage warranty.

Getting the run around? By Managers?

Playing games saying waiting to hear from Falcon tires, and then saying come in they need to check tires for the air? My tires worn down at 20K. They are saying they do not replace? Come on.

20K?

Give me a break! "HAS ANYONE FILED A LAW SUIT?"

Guest

OCT 2012 I HAVE ONLY 20K miles. They wore down.

They are saying they are not responsible. Not looking to honor or replace. Its only 20K miles.

They are really rip off....THIS IS THE STORE OFF ALICIA PARKWAY IN SO. CAL Near 5 FWY

It's a great scam. DT here won't ever rotate my tires anymore, even when all 4 are almost new.

Their 'policy' is the best tires ALWAYS ahve to be on the rear. Win for DT, so they don't have to perform non-revenue related services, a loss for you, as you can buy 2 new tires up front annually. They can even now rip you off on the tire warranty since they weren't rotated properly.

I've been a DT customer for 20 years on 4 vehicles, but I'm angry and will find another supplier. This is a scam.

I have found the exact same experience here in Michigan. Been a DT customer for 20 years, always had tired rotated, but in the last year DT won't rotate them - it is a scam.

I am going someplace else, but the tires I have to replace are only 2 years old. :(

Yall believe yall know more than the guys that work at discount tire... a pro-rated warranty, a certificate for free replacement, and a manufacture milage warranty are three totally seperate things.

Thats whats wrong with consumer these days that do not read and understand what they are buting before they make a purchase.

Discount Tire Snuck in an Extra Payment

Discount tire added a payment that I did not request. It was for a tire replacement warranty. I paid for my tires and left. Then at home I looked the bill and noticed $44 extra dollars. I called to find out what was going on and the manager apologized and said it was employee error. That's bull. The salesman never talked to me about a replacement tire warranty and in my opinion snuck that on the the bill. That is illegal. I spoke to the manager and he gave me a little push back saying that I signed the bill and it is my responsibility to make sure everything was ok. Do you see how they do it? Be careful.

Shady Shady Shady

Went to the store in Bloomington MN. Got new tires put on.

I go to leave the store and notice a big puddle under my truck. Hmmm. I go to drive away and NO BRAKES!! Left front line is leaking real bad...

I go get the guy and all he kept saying is she's pretty rusty. Say dude it was fine when I came here. No puddle under where I parked it. But AFTER the job there is ALL of my brake fluid on the ground under my truck.

Upon looking closer you could see where a pliers had been applied to the line.......

Pretty *** SHADY!!!

Go for tires and they break things... Won't ever be going there again!

No new tires

Do not go to the Discount Tire store on broadway (Edmond ,Oklahoma). They charge new tire prices and put in used tires. I experienced this today when i checked the tire pressure. I was angry and when i went back to ask i was ignored. Whats worse is they try to pass the tires as new by cleaning the tires (poorly by the way). I do not know if this is happening only at this store location or nation wide. I do not know why they conned me but im thinking about all the other owners who drove off oblivious they probably paid double for the tires. Buyer beware; the tires are not new.

There is no way on earth i am ever bringing my car to your parking lot again. Im not falling for that.

I'll replace the tires elsewhere, this post is for the the people who you may still be cheating. This is for the consumers: always mark your tires before going to Discount Tires and check them before leaving. If they shine your tires use extra caution!

Guest

I am the store manager and am extremely surprised to read this. I run a very honest store with integrity for a company that was built on integrity.

If you contact me I will show you.

If there is any question whether we sold you new tires I will replace them for you at no charge. This is a very unusual complaint but easily resolved if you come and see me.

Guest

Of course you dont tire dude. You probably work there.

All i know is new tires are supposed to be clean with no sign of tread wear, what they put on my car was not new. Part of it is my fault for trusting them, but sooner or later the truth always comes out.

i really highly doubt this story to be true in any way.

Discount Tires

The company is really a good company with good intentions. It is the managers and employees that work for them that makes the problems or reasons for bad service. I HAD been a customer for 35 years, I moved to Cypress, Texas and had the pleasure of trying to buy tire from the store on Spring Cypress. I waited three and half hours to buy tires, I asked how much longer? The young man there very rudely said you have 6 cars ahead of you. I don't see how after waiting almost four hours there could possibly be any one a head of me. It was another hour and twenty minutes. I will not go back there ever.

Don't waste your coin on them!

These people/artist/whatever used my money for weeks and when I called to ask WHERE are the 2 tire I ordered and paid for, and was charged for? They said they didn't stock the tires that I... A. Ordered and I paid for. B. They claimed to "Have in Stock". C. Waited for Patiently. D. Finally called & complained about not receiving. Oh we sent you an email...BS. Didn't you get it? ???? I could almost hear the guy smiling. So then they had to refund my purchase. Hey... if you could use $214.00 for two weeks, just the $ interest alone, you'd make you some coin too. Now multiply that by 2000 unhappy customers waiting for a product that you don't even have...big ..big money. Good Scam. Well done.. and screw them. Meanwhile, the price went up a couple bucks at Tire Rack, but at least they tell you the truth ands my tires came in 48 hrs.

Defective tires

Discount Tires sold me a set of 4 tires in March 2011. In July I noticed they were wearing on the middle tread only - to date, they have not resolved the problem. I had it checked at their store and it was NOT from over-inflation. They blame it on the miles I drive each day -- not even a good excuse in my book. The manager at the Madison Store was very pushy and when I would not look at him, he became almost belligerent. I feel that the tires are defective and that they should replace all four tires.

Original review Aug 29, 2011
I recently shopped for tires online at Discount Tire in Lake Havasu AZ.I live in Bullhead City AZ. and have grown tired of the unprofessional tire stores in my area.Over the phone I am quoted a price for a specific tire and once I arrive Im told they are out of that tire and try to sell me another at a higher price, when I begin to leave, amazingly they come up with a tire(which is different from the tire I originally selected)at a price close to their original quote. I decided to try Discount Tire in Lake Havasu AZ,a 66 mile drive.I was impressed with the ability to order and set an appt. online. My appt.is tomorrow,to be safe I called the store to verify, and surprise, they just sold the last set of these tires today.but Kyle tells me he can put some thing else on my truck for the same price.I'm still going to try this store but I'm already pissed.Good luck Kyle it will take alot to get me to buy anything from them,They have wasted my time and angered me,I plan to return the favor. If some how they do appease me I will come back here and write a stellar review along with an apology.Don't hold your breath.

Discount Tire has New Discovery of Stupidity

I have been a member of DT for years and my alignment at the front of my vehicle is messed up to cause wearing on the outer edges of both front tires. My back tires whether new or old take many years to wear out. Currently I have had old tires with good tread on the back. To the point, I went to the Plano, TX location near Spring Creek and Hwy 75. They gave me 2 new tires, but refused my request in the name of "vehicle safety due to new technology/discovery" that I have to have the new tires on the back and the old on the front. I had them installed because my two front tires at the time were worn down to the metal strippings. A couple days later, I drove to the other Plano, TX location off Ohio Dr. for a free tire rotation and they denied it to me because of the same *** discovery. Last time I checked, common sense says balled tires cause vehicles to get into wrecks by swerving, not treaded tires. I called my parents who live in California about this and they said they have never heard of this before and that they always get rotations from their DT. And what technology is this? All I see are the same old shops with the same old tools. More like new BS to scam another victim! I have been a loyal customer for about 10 years. !!!Rot in *** Discount Tire!!!

Well I have a front wheel drive car. My front tires wear out faster. So what they're are saying is that I can never get my tires rotated?

Why dont you research what Discount Tire is trying to teach you instead of crying to your parents. If you do a little research you will see that Discount Tire is absolutely correct. New or better tires need to be on the rear.

If you want them to pit the new tires on the front then just buy two more a cheap ***

A quick Google search reveals that the tire industry recommends that two new tires go on the rear axle for safety reasons.

New tires in Feb went to DT for fix told to buy NEW tires

We purchased a set of 4 NEW tires in Feb of 2011 and began noticing a problem with balance which progressively worsened. Took it in to have it looked at and was told we would have to purchase TWO NEW tires however would receive a discount because the tires were purchased so recently. The attendent told me it was an alignment issue which is not covered under warranty. The driver side front tire did show signs of wear on the the inner tread - however - CERTAINLY not "new tire" worthy. Disgusted with the "upsale" tactic I went to the competitor down the street and PAID to have the tires balanced. Of course I shared what had just happened at Discount Tire with the competitor who could not believe I was asked to purchase NEW tires. The competitor who USED to recommend clients go to that discount tire when he was too full - will no longer be making the recommendation not only because of my experience that morning, also found faulty work with the original install. I was a loyal customer and have been for over 7 years - I will not be returning to the store - nor will I recommend others to do so. In fact, I will actually take the time to share my experience publically on our local internet reveiw sites. Shame shame shame on you Discount Tire!!!

Brenham, Texas Discount Tire Store

Incompetent at best. Move over "used car salesmen" the Brenham, Texas Discount Tire store salesmen are about to take your reputation away from you.

These guys are the new *** men of the tire business. Not all Discount Tire stores are run like the one in Brenham, Texas. Their "sales" model really preys on people's fears and ignorance about tires. What they tell you they can do becomes your fault, because they won't deliver on what they tell you.

Do yourself a favor drive the extra distance to Bastrop, College Station, Houston or even Austin and deal with those Discount Tire stores. There is a difference between the stores.

Ok so last comment I made was about the rude and totally off the wall experience with Brenhams Discount tire.

Today after a revisit to the store and having what I assume to be a true manager perhaps owner I'm not sure approach me to make things right I have a completely different opinion then what I had Friday.

THE MAN to take up issues with is named "Key". He is a professional, he understands customer service, he has people skills and he will go to the extreme to keep customer satisfaction positive.

In my case we didn't agree on the statistics Discount Tire used to make its policies. Like all studies there are 2 sides and each side will fight to the finish to prove they are correct. Truth is for every occasion that demonstrates the need to put new rubber on the rear end I had personal experience that proved to me the steering tires are the ones in need of better tread. In my case after citing a regular driving situation I run into that does in fact demand superior front end traction, Key found a solution that satisfied my demands and also satisfied Discount Tires Demands of proper location of best tread.

Key went far above and beyond to rectify the situation and assure my continued patronage of discount tire.

Some of the under management still have lessons to learn as far as people skills but under his leadership they too should quickly develop customer service based skills to better serve the customers as well as the company.

Hats off to you Key and thank you for your resolution to the situation.

Total idiots. The so called Manager Ryan what a joke.

You know I pay them money to install a new tire and put it where I want the tire to go and then go pick it up and find that O NO new tires MUST go to the rear of the vehicle. NEVER MIND what I the buyer wants. He can't show you anything in writing, you can't find anything on line to support his claim that Discount Tire's policy will not allow them to put a new tire on the front of a vehicle. Its NOT a law it this stores policy to do what they think you need not what you know you need.

In fact I was told if I had a blow out on one of my front tires and I managed to limp into the store and asked them to put my spare tire which was brand new on the front end where the tire was blown, he actually told me that he would have to put the new tire on the spare on the rear end of my vehicle and then put the worn tire from the rear on to the front.

What kind of a *** is this joker.

Good Lord man you ever heard the saying the customer is always right?

Long time customer but NEVER AGAIN with this ***.

First Off I've been to the Brenham Store and have dealt with Key and the many other store in the Houston area from Wilcrest all the way to Brenham. You shouls do you your research before sticking what seems to be a size 22 shoe in your mouth:

Where to Install New Pairs of Tires?

Most vehicles are equipped with the same size tire at every wheel position.

Ideally all of these tires should also be of the same type and design, have the same tread depth and be inflated to the pressures specified by the vehicle placard or owner's manual. This combination best retains the handling balance engineered into the vehicle by its manufacturer.

However due to a front-wheel drive vehicle’s front tires' responsibility for transmitting acceleration, steering and most of the braking forces, it's normal for them to wear faster than rear tires. Therefore if the tires aren't rotated on a regular basis, tires will typically wear out in pairs rather than in sets. And if the tires aren't rotated at all, it's likely that the rear tires will still have about 1/2 of their original tread depth remaining when the front tires are completely worn out.

Intuition suggests that since the front tires wore out first and because there is still about half of the tread remaining on the rear tires, the new tires should be installed on the front axle.

This will provide more wet and wintry traction; and by the time the front tires have worn out for the second time, the rear tires will be worn out, too. However in this case, intuition isn't right...and following it can be downright dangerous.

When tires are replaced in pairs in situations like these, the new tires should always be installed on the rear axle and the partially worn tires moved to the front. New tires on the rear axle help the driver more easily maintain control on wet roads since deeper treaded tires are better at resisting hydroplaning. Hydroplaning occurs when the tire cannot process enough water through its tread design to maintain effective contact with the road.

In moderate to heavy rain, water can pool up in road ruts, depressions and pockets adjacent to pavement expansion joints. At higher speeds, the standing water often found in these pools challenges a tire's ability to resist hydroplaning. Exactly when hydroplaning occurs is the result of a combination of elements including water depth, vehicle weight and speed, as well as tire size, air pressure, tread design and tread depth. A lightweight vehicle with wide, worn, underinflated tires in a heavy downpour will hydroplane at lower speeds than a heavyweight vehicle equipped with new, narrow, properly inflated tires in drizzling rain.

If the front tires have significantly less tread depth than the rear tires, the front tires will begin to hydroplane and lose traction on wet roads before the rear tires. While this will cause the vehicle to understeer (the vehicle wants to continue driving straight ahead), understeer is relatively easy to control because releasing the gas pedal will slow the vehicle and help the driver maintain control. However, if the front tires have significantly more tread depth than the rear tires, the rear tires will begin to hydroplane and lose traction on wet roads before the fronts. This will cause the vehicle to oversteer (the vehicle will want to spin).

Oversteer is far more difficult to control and in addition to the initial distress felt when the rear of the car starts sliding, quickly releasing the gas pedal in an attempt to slow down may actually make it more difficult for the driver to regain control, possibly causing a complete spinout. Experience Members of Tire Rack team had the chance to experience this phenomenon at Michelin's Laurens Proving Grounds. Participants were allowed to drive around a large radius, wet curve in vehicles fitted with tires of different tread depths -- one vehicle with new tires on the rear and half-worn tires on the front and the other with the new tires in the front and half-worn tires on the rear. It didn't take long for this hands-on experience to confirm that the "proving grounds" name for the facility was correct.

The ability to sense and control predictable understeer with the new tires on the rear and the helplessness in trying to control the surprising oversteer with the new tires on the front was emphatically proven. And even though our drivers had the advantage of knowing we were going to be challenged to maintain car control, spinouts became common during our laps in the car with the new tires on the front and the worn tires on the rear. Michelin advises us that almost every driver spins out at least once when participating in this demonstration! Experiencing this phenomenon in the safe, controlled conditions of Michelin's Laurens Proving Grounds rather than in traffic on an Interstate ramp in a rainstorm is definitely preferred!

Recommendations Tires should be serviced periodically following the rotation patterns provided in the vehicle's owner's manual or as established by the industry to help enhance wear quality and equalize front-to-rear and side-to-side wear rates. The minor differences in tread depth between tires that might be encountered immediately after periodic tire rotations at 5,000-7,500 mile intervals won’t upset the vehicle's hydroplaning balance and should not preclude rotating tires. For that matter, any differences in wear rates actually indicate that tire rotations should be done more frequently. Ideally tires should be replaced in complete sets.

However when tires are replaced in pairs, the new pair of tires (assuming the vehicle is equipped with the same size tires all of the way around) should always be installed on the rear axle and the existing partially worn tires moved to the front axle. While insufficient tire rotation intervals and/or out-of-adjustment wheel alignment angles often caused the differences in front-to-rear and side-to-side tire wear rates in the first place, the need to keep deeper treaded tires on the rear axle to resist oversteer conditions caused by wet road hydroplaning is important.

Unfortunately this precludes the future possibility of ever rotating tires. Once a pair of tires has been installed, the only way to escape being forced to drive on mismatched tires continually is to install a complete set of new tires (especially on front-wheel drive vehicles).
