Discount Tire-Talking *** behind my back!
Beware of Discount Tire
Discount Tires has competitive prices but I will not buy tires from them again. There's three reasons for that: First, and least important, the salesman automatically tacked on road hazard insurance with my last set of tires even though I didn't ask for it. It's generally not a wise decision to buy road hazard insurance because, like most unnecessary insurance, it's a bad bet. After all, Discount Tires sells it because they know it will pay for them, not you. You can replace a tire with a brand new one for the cost of the road hazard insurance and how many times have you even had a tire totally fail? The kid (probably about 20) who tacked on the insurance without my permission then lectured me on how roads are so much worse theses days! I'm 61 and I know how the roads were in the past; he doesn't. He had a lot of nerve, IMO, adding on that insurance without even asking me if I wanted it. Of course, I had him remove the insurance from my bill but he tried to give me a hard time about that.
The second reason I won't buy from Discount Tires actually makes me angry with them. As you may know, aluminum rims can develop leaks where the rim meets the tire bead. This is very common and it is easily fixed. But it's apparently the policy of Discount Tires to deny that bead sealant even exists and, at the first sign of leakage, they tell customers that they should buy a whole new set of wheels from them. Any honest tire business will fix the leak easily. I did an Internet search and found that Discount Tires tells this same lie to many customers. As I said, it appears to be their policy and it is a clear rip-off.
Lastly, on several occasions when I have had DT rotate and balance my tires, they over-tightened the lug nuts so much that I could not loosen them even using a breaker bar with a two foot pipe added that I jumped with my 260 pounds of weight. In both cases, I actually had to have a tow truck take the car into a shop to remove the wheel. In one case, my wife was stranded for quite a while. She knows how to change a tire but the lug nuts were as if they were welded on. The shop that finally got them off said they had never sen anything like before. I'm just glad my rotors or wheels weren't warped.
Also, when I have DT rotate and re-balance the tires, I check the tire pressure myself. The tire pressures they set have been off every single time. And it's not that my gauge reads slightly different. I work on cars and I have professional gauge. DT's pressures are not only off, but they vary widely from tire to tire. So be sure to re-check the pressures if you go to DT.
Discount Tire ruined my wheels, didn't even apologized.
Yesterday I went to Discount Tire in Maplewood, MN on White Bear Ave to get my tire checked because it kept leaking air. I specifically told them to tell me what they problem was once they found out because the tire is still under warranty.
I never signed any service contract and they fixed the tire without my consent. When the wheel came back out, there were two long scratches and two indents on my $800 rim. I know with 100% certainty that there was no scars on the rim before it went in. My husband pointed out the scratches right away and right away the customer rep denied causing the damages even though he was not the technician who worked on my wheel.
My husband was furious and asked them to dismount the tire again so he can see how it was done, the customer rep agreed to dismount the tire again. He claims to have 10+ years experience yet he asked someone else to dismount the tire. When they dismounted it again, my husband noticed a big rip on the tire where it touches the rim. With both the technician and the rep there, they didn't even catch the tear in my tire till my husband pointed it out.
They denied the damages right away again. Very rude and horrible service. I will never use them ever again and I will do everything in my power to spread the word. They never apologized or offer to replace anything or give me a new tire or rim for a discount.
I walked out of there with a tire with a huge rip and a rim with scratches and dents unmounted because I refuse to let them touch them again.
They are the first people to handle my wheel since I bought it. There is no doubt about who cause the damage.

Discount tire sales tactics deceptive
Discount Tires, Salisbury NC.
Went in for tires. They quoted me nice price, went in it was $120 more after all "add ons". Got home checked bill, and saw $56 for 4 replacement certificates. Was never explained this chg at the point of sales, kind of "slid" in in on me. Its akin to additional warranty when buying a frig or stove. Always good for retailer, not good for customer.
They took the chg off my bill and refunded or else I would have had Visa company on them.
To me is is deception and I will prob not use them again. Can't believe they'd do this and just opened two months ago in our city. They are going to get a bad reputation.

Lied repeatedly about tire availability
Discount Tire destroyed our car!
We are an average hard working American family. We take responsibility for ourselves and never complain, take a stand or see ourselves as victims, until now!
I went to the Discount Tire store located at 1230 South Milton Road, Flagstaff, Arizona. November 9th, 2009 to have the tires rotated on our 2005 Kia Sorrento. I clearly informed the salesperson that the vehicle was 4-wheel drive and with the possibility of winter storms in the forecast "I want to ensure that my wife had safe transportation while I was out town on business".
The manager, "Kurt" informed me that he would not rotate the tires and instead wanted me to purchase new tires right then. I informed him that was not possible today and I was leaving on a business trip.
The front tires did have an uneven wear pattern and needed to be rotated. There was still plenty of tread on the tires and would have been fine on the rear of the car until after the first of the year and we were past the holidays. The rear tires had plenty of tread and looked almost new. The set of four were replaced in 2007 and I was driving less then 20 miles a day during this time frame.
Kurt insisted that this was unsafe and offered to install a pair of loaner tires to get us through until we could replace the tires. His offer seemed reasonable and I trusted his "professional opinion".
After about a 45 minute wait one of the young men announced that my car was ready. He thanked me and said the documents were in the glove box.
On December 7th, 2009 during a storm my wife called me and said she was having problems on the icy roads while in four-wheel drive. This was the beginning of a serious winter storm and the roads were pretty bad.
After about 16 miles of driving down state route 89a in snow and ice the car was smoking and shuttering. My wife pulled over and called me. I told her to call roadside assistance have it towed where we could have it looked at.
Upon inspection by the Kia dealership they determined that entire driveline of the car was destroyed and the tires were the blame. The service manager said, "you need to go after the person that put those tires on your car!" In reviewing the documents from the tire swap on November 9th it was clear and known to them, they put a taller pair of tires on front of the car than what was installed on the rear of the car.
Here is what Discount determined in their "investigation":
Dear Ms. XXXXXX:
A review of the above referenced claim has been completed. According to a statement taken by the tow truck driver that transported your vehicle to Oxendale Kia you drove your vehicle in 4_wheel drive for over 30 miles on flat freeway. When the tires were installed as a temporary replacement in November 2009 it was not brought to the salespersons attention that your vehicle was a 4_wheel drive vehicle. Had your vehicle not been placed in 4-wheel drive the temporary tires would have performed without causing damage. Based on this information, Discount Tire will not be issuing any voluntary payments to indemnify you at this time.
If you have any additional information that you think may be relevant in our liability investigation, please submit it to my attention for. In the absence of any new information, our file will remain closed. Please be advised that the statute of limitations for property damage claims in the state of Arizona is 2 years from the date of loss.
Sincerely,
Claims Mgmt Dept.
Discount Tire Company
I have removed the name and phone number here in all fairness. Now, the statements in this denial letter are totally false. The tow truck driver that delivered the car to the Dealership claims to have never made such a statement.
It was 16 miles until the vehicle failed on an icy, snowy canyon road. the Kia dealerships service department agrees with the owners' manual (with the correct tires installed) even if this were driven on a Flat freeway it would not cause any damage to the driveline.
Obviously the person who wrote this letter has never been to Northern Arizona, for there is nothing "Flat" about where we live or the drive to my wife's office which is not via a freeway.
I was clear with Kurt that this was a 4x4 vehicle and to add insult to injury, they have put tires on this car recently and all the information about our car in their system.
We are a simple, happy, working class family. We trusted the "˜experts' at Discount Tire with our needs. As a result, our vehicle is sitting at the Kia dealership with $12,000 damage and we are still making the monthly payments on it. We have 2-car loans out- we simply can't qualify for another vehicle loan.
Bottom line; we are stuck paying for a mistake made by Discount Tire.
I paid for a one-hour consultation with an attorney. He informed us that we would have to foot the entire bill to take this to court and could not be reimbursed for our expenses since nobody was physically injured. I am grateful my wife or some else on the road was not injured. I would not trade the welfare of others in order to force Discount tire to do the right thing and repair our Sorrento that their mistake and negligence damaged.
Do not purchase tires from any of their stores. Clearly they are not just incompetent, they are sorry people of poor character with no morals and don't care who they hurt!
They screwed me & took my money "those bastards"
Discount Tires is a bait and switch operation!
I called the local Discount Tire store to get a quote on four replacement tires. They quoted me General Tire 205/65/R15 for $60 each.
A pretty good deal. What they put on the car was Barum tires, a cheapo tire made in the Cech Republic. I didn't notice the sales receipt I signed was for Barum tires. I guess its my fault for not being vigilant, but I'll never recommend Discount tires to anyone ever!
This was the Elgin IL store, the salesman's name was Brian.
Beware of this shop, they're crooks! Never again will I buy from them!

Fired after twenty years on the job
Discount Tire robbed my wife.
Six months ago took my wifes RX330 into the Discount tire on 2920 in Houston TX and had a tire changes out $150.19...very pleased with job. My wife takes the car in last week to have the rest of the tires done and comes home with a price of $200 per tire plus they add on a certificate for free replacement for another $37.75 per tire without asking her.
I go in and get teh free replacement backed out but they refuse to do anything about the price. Lexus price was only $14 more...so much for a bargain.
They took advantage of someone who did not understand what was happening.
"discount" indeed

the guy who needed his rim repair just so you know mavis can only bead seal wheels if they were charging u 60 dollars that must have been for them to sens it to a place to cut the corossion or chrome peeling off the rim so for mavis to replace a tire pressure monitor kit and remove and install your tire and then balance and put it on the car. the kit is like 8-10 dollars alone so for him to charge you an extra 12 dollars inst mount balance and labor.
u are just a cheap person. i bet u whatever shop did it for free at. it will leak , if not done properly i know this i used to fix rims good luck.
and i know that manager ive refered many people to him and nothing but the best services discounted lower then anywhere else. he is honest.
that woudnt happen to be jason minori from the franklin square store on hempstead tpke?
i went there the other to get my tire checked cuz of a leak. i was told that my TPMS sensor was corroded and thats why it was leaking. so i took my tire and wheel to a REAL tire shop and all it took was a little grinding and it was good to go and the guy didnt even charge me for ANYTHING. this guy jason wanted me to get the wheel "repaired" and it was going to cost me $60 plus $20 for a TPMS kit.
whoever hired this guy must have his head up his butt. he doesnt even realize that he talks so loud that i could hear every word he was saying through the glass and all hes about is ripping people off. i heard it out of his own mouth. i hope the people at mavis do something about this guy. sooner or later hes going to get confronted by an angry customer or worker cuz, he treats them just as bad as the customers.
stay away from this store
the customer is a dumb piece of *** in my opinion...
